Scientists study the remains of the largest aquatic organism ever to live on Earth

The evolution of the Igdoshers was astonishing, but unfortunately, their extinction was rapid due to the wave of destruction that the earth saw during that period.

Before extinction during the time of the dinosaurs, ancient researchers were able to study the remains of the aquatic ichthyosaurus, which is considered to be one of the three largest living creatures on Earth.

According to the news published on the website, York Warning (Eurek Alert) Scientists hope that understanding how these creatures evolved so quickly will help them understand the evolution of today’s large whales, such as the blue whale and dolphins.

Ichthyosaur is considered one of the largest aquatic creatures because its skull can reach up to two meters in length and was in control of its aquatic environment, much like the dinosaurs that surround it control the land.

Descendants of a family still unknown

The origin of this strange creature is not yet known to scientists, as it was confirmed by Dr. Martin Sander of the University of Bonn in Germany and a research partner at the Dinosaur Institute of Natural History in the Los Angeles County, USA – published in the journal on the museum’s website – from the Igdosers’ terrestrial reptile group.

The researchers added that “although the remains of these creatures were discovered 250 years ago in southern Germany and the UK, that is, before the dinosaur remains were discovered, we still do not know the origin of these creatures.”

The remnants of the Igdosers return Studying It was published in the journal Science last December 24 – about 247 million years ago, when it was found in the Augusta Mountains in Nevada, USA, and scientists believe it was mentioned in a complete skull in addition to part of its backbone. Its length reaches 17 meters, making it the tallest aquatic creature ever.

A development that amazed scientists

Lars Schmidts, a dinosaur researcher, said in an e-mail to Al Jazeera that the importance of this study was to help understand the evolution of large whales, such as dolphins and blue whales.

The spokesman added, “The study we have completed is very important because it will help us to better understand how large whales came into being in our time. That will be explained in the future. “

He pointed out that this study revealed that ichthyosaurs evolved much faster than the existing large whales. “Ichthyosaurs only lived for about 3 million years, which is a very short period of time compared to the largest whales we know of. Today, it took a long time to convert to these sizes.” Unlike the Igdosers, it evolved very quickly. “

He said, “So the evolution of the Igdosers was astonishing, but unfortunately, their extinction was so rapid that they caused the extinction of about 80% of the species during that period due to the wave of extinction on Earth.
