London – Reuters
Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte said he was delighted his team had advanced to the semi-finals of the English Football League Cup and was one step closer to ending his 13-year fast to win titles.
Tottenham, who qualified for the semi-finals with a 2-1 win over West Ham United last night, will face Conte’s former side Chelsea in the semi-finals.
Tottenham won the first half with two goals from Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Maura, while Jarrod Bowen scored for West Ham.
Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in the 2016-2017 season and the FA Cup title the following season.
Commenting on the upcoming match, Conte told reporters: “It will definitely be good for me to play against Chelsea. I have had two great seasons with Chelsea and enjoyed everything, but now I am the Tottenham coach and I am ready to do everything I can for this club.”
In another semi-final, Arsenal will face Liverpool, while Conte said it will not be an easy match at this stage of the tournament.
The Italian coach continued: “When you reach the semi-finals you can see Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. It is very difficult to win a title in England.”
The semi-finals of two domestic and out-of-town matches will take place in January.
Tottenham’s last title was the League Cup in 2008, where they beat Chelsea in the final.
