3 Students start a campaign to introduce green hydrogen

Three Emirati students majoring in public relations at the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah presented a campaign to introduce green hydrogen and how to produce it using clean, renewable energy through the electrolysis of water. Students Omran Mustafa Al-Masmi, Khaled Al-Hammadi and Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Al-Masmi highlight the importance of green hydrogen in the fields of energy, aviation and maritime transport as it is the ideal fuel of the future. The importance of sustainable development highlights the UAE’s role in hydrogen production, contributing to the reduction of oil and gas flaring, the use of carbon capture and storage techniques, and the improvement of environmental standards for efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability. Many school students in Sharjah and some local departments and nearly 500 people benefited from it.

Clean energy

Omran Al-Masmi stressed that the introductory campaign for the green hydrogen project, which is produced in an environmentally friendly way using clean energy such as wind and solar energy, aims to introduce the largest part of Emirati society to the importance. Green hydrogen is produced by splitting hydrogen molecules from oxygen in water, using electrolysis, which requires a lot of electricity, and is obtained from solar energy, with a model showing how hydrogen is produced by solar panels and wind turbines. It is then stored in containers for electrical analysis, and after the manufacturing process, hydrogen gas is stored for use in sea and land transport, in addition to the cooking process, for indoor heating applications. Ammonia, used in agriculture, is also extracted.

Student Abdul Rahman Al-Masmi said the aim is to introduce environmentally friendly production of green hydrogen, using clean renewable energy to indicate the applications of green hydrogen. Water, electricity, cooking and heating, and the propulsion of trucks and electric cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells, in addition to powering container ships, one of its main advantages is that it is storable, sustainable, transportable, and versatile.

Khaled Al-Hammadi confirmed that the work of organizing the campaign took 5 months, during which the project “Green Hydrogen Future Fuel” was introduced, and its importance in the future – in particular – it is environmentally friendly, and hydrogen is an important element in green carbon removal efforts, because it is a multi-material, It is capable of storing chemical energy, is environmentally friendly, and can replace coal and gas as raw material in the steel industry, thus, becoming an energy source. Release without releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which causes global warming.
